The Rescue oil on wood painting by artist Kim A Richards

The Rescue

This painting is inspired by the scripture found in John 14:16-18 that says, “And I will ask the Father and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you…”

The Holy Spirit is depicted as the raven in this painting, who is coming to rescue her and lead her out of darkness and into a new life of light- making her new. It’s dawning, and a vast new world (life) awaits her as she is guided by the Holy Spirit into her God-given purpose. Like her, we don’t know the way. We don’t know what to do or how to do it. And that’s okay because we are given the Holy Spirit to be our guide and to direct us. We were never meant to walk through this life on our own, figuring things out on our own, carrying burdens on our own. We’ve been given the ultimate helper, on whom we are to lean and depend.

Other scriptures that inspired this painting include John 16:13, Psalm 139:7-8, and 1 Peter 2:9.
