Still Waters

still waters

This painting is inspired by a portion of the scripture, Psalm 23:2-3 that says “…he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul…” It depicts a peaceful scene beside quiet water. God the Spirit, represented by the raven, has led her to this place of peace and restoration. Our wilderness journey is fraught with circumstances that may cause us to fear, have doubts, become depressed or anxious. The journey may even cause us to morph into people God never intended for us to be. It is in these times where we need the kind of peace only God can provide and brought back to God’s initial purpose for our lives.

He also leads us to a place of trust where we can rely on Him and rest in the confidence of knowing that He is taking care of us. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach, who frequently applied initials on his manuscripts, signifying his Christian faith, inscribed on the tree in this painting are the initials “I.N.J.”, which is a Latin abbreviation for In Nomine Jesu, or “in the name of Jesus.”
