rest
“Rest” is an allegorical painting depicting God’s provision and peace. The inspirations for this painting come from Psalm 23:2, which says “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures…” This is God’s peace and rest. The Bible also speaks of how Elijah (1 Kings 17:2-16) was in the desert feeling utterly abandoned by God and thus, wanted to die. But God provided for Elijah by sending him ravens to bring him meat and bread. The ravens were a symbol of God’s grace and provision.
Here, she is resting peacefully, watched over by God’s eternal presence (shadow figure) and continuously provided for by the Holy Spirit (the raven). The bag of rotting fruit, she has laid down; symbolizing her laying down of the burdens, baggage, and rottenness of her life. It doesn’t matter what’s happening around her, she can rest knowing that she is being cared for always and in all ways.
